Baptism

In Baptism, we are born “Through water and the Spirit… from above” (Jn 3:5), and we become “God’s beloved” child (from Mt 4:17). We are “saved”, and receive eternal life. As we go down under the water, we die to self, and as we rise out of the water, we rise to new life with Christ.

NOTE: IF YOUR CHILD IS 7+ YEARS, THE CHILD MUST REGISTER FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PREPARATION OF BAPTISM.

NOTA: SI SU HIJO/A TIENE 7 Años o más, el niño/a debe registrarse en el programa de educación religiosa para ser preparado para el bautismo.

Baptisms
English Baptisms take place every second Saturday of the month at Our Lady of Knock site and every 4th Saturday at St. Andrew site. Baptisms are celebrated @ 10:00 a.m.

Bautismos
Bautismos en español se celebran el Primer Sábado del mes en el templo de Nuestra Señora de Knock y el tercer Sábado del mes son en el templo de San Andrés. Los bautismos se celebran a las 10:00 a.m.

Dear Parents, these are the guidelines for obtaining the Sacrament of Baptism for Infants (newborns—age 6) at Jesus, Shepherd of Souls Parish.

We ask you to read it carefully and provide us with all information necessary as you prepare for the baptism of your child. All information needed is in conformity with the Guidelines for Infant Baptism for the Diocese of Chicago.

Baptism is no mere social convention, but the Sacrament in which Christ Himself purifies, justifies and sanctifies (cf. 1 Peter 1:23) your child for eternal life. We rejoice with you in the birth of your child and look forward to welcoming him into the family of God and the communion of the Holy Catholic Church.

Estimados padres, adjunto se encuentran los formularios y las pautas para obtener el Sacramento del Bautismo para bebés (recién nacidos a 6 años) en la Parroquia Jesús, Pastor de Almas.

Le pedimos que lo lea atentamente y nos proporcione toda la información necesaria mientras se prepara para el bautismo de su hijo. Toda la información necesaria está en conformidad con las Pautas para el Bautismo Infantil de la Diócesis de Chicago.

El bautismo no es una mera convención social, sino el Sacramento en el que Cristo mismo purifica, justifica y santifica (cf. 1 Pedro 1,23) a tu hijo para la vida eterna. Nos regocijamos contigo por el nacimiento de tu hijo y esperamos darle la bienvenida a la familia de Dios y la comunión de la Santa Iglesia Católica.

Baptism Requirements:
Only the Mother or Father or the Legal Guardian of the child can request the Baptism of their child.
Infant /Childs original Birth Certificate.
Donation of $150.00
Both parents and both godparents must attend a two hour Baptismal class.
Godparents must be a Male and a Female.
Godparents must practice the Catholic Faith.
We will need a copy of a ID for parents and Godparents.
*Godparents must obtain a letter of good standing from the parish they registered.

Godparents:
For a person to stand as a Godparent or Sponsor, the following requirements must be met:
• Be designated by the candidate, parents, guardians, or
pastor.
• Have the intention of performing the role of sponsor.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Be a fully initiated Catholic (received Baptism, First
Communion and Confirmation).
• Lead a life in harmony with the Faith and role of a sponsor
  (i.e., be a registered member
of a parish, attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days).
• Be faithful to the laws of the Church regarding marriage
  (i.e., not cohabitating).
• Not bound by canonical penalty.
• Not the father or mother of the candidate.

Requisitos para el Bautismo:
Sólo la Madre, el Papá o el Tutor Legal del niño pueden solicitar el Bautismo de su hijo/a.

PAPÁS:
-Acta de nacimiento original de el/la niño(a).
-Donación de $150.00
-Ambos padres y padrinos deben asistir a una clase
bautismal de dos horas.
-Padrinos deben ser un hombre y una mujer.
-Padrino y Madrina deben practicar la fe Católica.
-Se necesita identificación de Mamá, Papá, Padrino y
Madrina.

PADRINO & MADRINA
Para que una persona pueda presentarse como madrina o padrino, se deben cumplir los siguientes requisitos:

Ser designado por el candidato, padres, tutores o pastor.
• Tener la intención de desempeñar el papel de padrino/madrina.
• Tener al menos 18 años.
• Ser un católico completamente iniciado (recibió Bautismo,
  Primera Comunión y Confirmación).
• Llevar una vida en armonía con la fe y el papel de un
padrino (es decir, ser un miembro registrado de una
  parroquia, asistir a misa los domingos y días de obigación.)
• Ser fiel a las leyes de la Iglesia con respecto al matrimonio
  (es decir, no cohabitar).
• No sujeto a pena canónica.
• No es el padre o la madre del candidato.
